Since the dim and distant past, the valley of the market community has entranced humankind. Medieval castles, prehistoric sites and the Roman settlement Sebatum form the setting of this unique man-made landscape. Massive buildings, portly residences and almost dreamlike village centres lend the bottom of the valley its character, while hamlets dispersed in the often adventurous steepness characterise the sunny slopes. Discovering the landscape moulded by the hard work of farmers, with many corners still intact, becomes an unforgettable experience.
The central position of the village at the doorstep of the Dolomites, morphological peculiarities and the continuity of settlements afford the landscape its character and diverse forms of ethnic culture. Many things have been preserved, some stored in the ethnic studies museum, and the feeling for beauty and tradition has remained.
